Blue

Malakoff has been seen as a companion piece to Blue, indeed both pieces have sold together at exhibition on more than one occasion. In fact, Blue was made in 2009, when I was living and working – as an archaeologist – in Dublin.

Blue was one of the first ‘Structure’ pieces; all of the images photographed in and around Dublin. The majority of the lower half of the image is of a blue building in the market area of the city. I merged a number of images of the walls and a surprisingly ornate doorway for a warehouse.

When merging the images I deliberately avoided matching the image edges so that the stitched together look fact of the piece was not lost in the making. The window, a thing of great beauty, come from another location in the city but clearly belonged in the piece. The rubbish was cleared out not long after I took the image, taking away its charm!
